Helping. Being a man, society (old, white, males) always told me “ it’s just that time of the month”. In the past every time I saw a woman mad, sad, or any emotion other than joy I have thought, “it’s just that time of the month”. I never understood the importance of Women's health issues. One day in august of 2024 one of my friends Natalia Rodriguez told me as a joke to join this club. The club was HerCare. When I asked my male friends if “we should join”, they all laughed at me. I thought they were lame, so October 18. I decided to go to a HerCare meeting, as I walked in the room I felt alienated. I was the only male in the room, knowing absolutely nothing about any woman issues. At first I believed pads/tampons were based on weight, yeah, weight. After a “bit” of embarrassment I started doing some research about common issues. I learned the many effects that hormones, fertility, and periods have on women. Researching these topics, asking my mom, sister, and girlfriend, I was able to learn and understand why “it’s just that time of the month” was the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. Men are usually told that emotions are for women and “ leave crying for the girls” leaving us incapable of understanding women's emotions and certain issues. But, learning about certain issues, mental or physical, has led me to becoming a better man. A man isn’t just one who carries heavy weights, makes money, or someone who always has to cover up their real emotions. A man is supposed to care, understanding women's issues so we can be a better society. Helping society does not take much, if every man just attempted to try and learn a little more about common issues that women face, our relationships would be tremendously stronger.
